Chapter 11

The lights of cameras temporarily blinded Irvin as he exited the limo at the Ziegfeld Theater in Manhattan for the premiere. He smiled and gave a wave before turning back to the limo and reaching his hand out to Faith. When she smiled at him, something hitched in his chest. Again, Kitty and the team had done a fantastic job prepping her for the premiere. There would be only a handful of men who would be able to keep their eyes off her tonight in the black-and-silver dress that dipped low between her breasts and stopped midthigh.

Faith’s warm brown eyes met his, and her lips curved up into a soft smile. He gave her hand a squeeze and wished he could climb right back into that limo with her and go someplace private. Movie premieres were necessary in his line of work, and usually he enjoyed them. But right now, he’d take another escape like the one they’d shared last night. Just him and Faith.

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had such an easy relationship with a woman.

“Are you ready?” he asked.

She got out of the car and froze when the cameras flashed in her face like minibursts of lightning, casting them both in blinding bright lights.

“Wow, this is crazy.” Her voice was filled with awe. “Do you ever get used to this?”

“Not really.” He pulled her close and wrapped his arm around her waist.

Her body stiffened, and she tried to pull away. “They’ll think something is going on between us,” she said past a stiff smile.

“Isn’t there?” he replied, raising a brow.

“But... I mean...we aren’t really together.”

“Tonight, you’re mine.”

Her lips parted. Only the flashing lights kept him from kissing her the way he wanted to. It had been less than twelve hours since he’d kissed her in front of her hotel, but it felt like years.

“Okay,” she said, though the look in her eyes was unsure.

Before he could reply, Kitty was already rushing them forward. They went through the motions of smiling for the cameras and interviewers, stopping every few feet on the red carpet. Faith tried to step back—Kitty even tried to help her get out of the way—but Irvin wouldn’t let her. He meant what he said. She was his date tonight, and he didn’t want her hidden in the background.

During the interviews, he introduced her as the lucky woman who’d won the weekend with him.

“So you’re really going to hate going home tomorrow, aren’t you?” the ultrathin female correspondent for an entertainment show asked Faith.

“It will be difficult after such a great weekend,” she said with a good-natured smile.

“What about you, Irvin?” the correspondent asked. “You’ll be on your way to Canada for filming next week. Are you excited about the project?”

He wasn’t excited about it. It was another action role that would require him to be shirtless, holding a gun and kissing Selena. He’d made the decision to send his screenplay to the producer the second he signed the contract to play the part.
